Don't Break the Chain 31 (#285-292)

285. Pandora meets her original design from 2012. It only occurred to me recently, after uncovering that original design, that she'd originally been intended to be lizard-sized. Here's the first concept drawing I did of her:
 
Now that I look at it, I didn't remember all the details right. It took her a couple more appearances to gain her stripes, and I think she always had the spikes going down her back, but I just forgot about them when I started drawing her again recently. Oh yes, and memes.
286. www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9q70zCJYBc I've never played a Spyro game, but I'm still excited for the Reignited Trilogy. I mean, c'mon. It shouldn't be hard to guess why. Anyway, I absolutely adore Spyro's new design. IMO, it's the first time they've absoutely NAILED the design - he looks so cute! (And kind of handsome, but that might just be me.) I had to draw him, and would have done it sooner, but I had other ideas on previous days. I'm not hugely happy with how he turned out - he looks too much like my style (just like with Cynder on page 27 , funnily enough), and not enough like the design I loved so much in the first place.
287. Admin Fennec asking me a silly question. I stayed up too late faffing around in Notepad and Excel. (sigh) I'm such a huge nerd that I obsessively write down stats about everything I do, most notably Don't Break the Chain and my YouTube videos. I'm running out of ways for Admin Fennec to tell me off, but it's been a little while since we appeared together. Incidentally, one of the stats I write down is how often various characters appear together, and Admin Fennec and I (and by "I" I mean me, not the Marowak named "I") appear the most often together. Before this page, we were tied with Teasnake and Teabat at 5 appearances together, but now we're in the lead. Yeah, narcissism! Woo!!
288. A short while back, I changed Yira's height from 6' 3" to 6' 1", as well as drastically reducing the age of all four of my main dragon characters (from 10 digits down to 5). Canonically, that's pretty darn short. I don't imagine her being insecure about it - now that I think about it, I think K'riestoef would be more insecure about his below-average height - but I like the idea of someone pretty tall compared to most humans still being embarrassed about being short. And I wanted to draw her.
289. Cherry Dragon being unwilling to sit through something. This was the day of my university interview, and oh boy. Things didn't go as planned, but I guess everything turned out more or less okay. Anyway, I'm really growing to like this gal. I think I'll call her Blossom.
290. I couldn't think of anything, so I scribbled down something in the vein of the twisted Mario characters on pages 12 and 13, or maybe the trilogy of Sonic being weird from even earlier. I wouldn't call this a throwaway, like the 12 drawings from the first eight pages which I've effectively disowned, because I didn't draw it because I couldn't be bothered to think of something better, or couldn't be bothered to make an effort.
291. A cute Latios. This was the one left over from page 30 (the blokes-only page) that I wanted to put there, but couldn't find the time, space or energy. Anyway, here he is. I've had this guy knocking around in my head for at least a year, but haven't given him a name yet. His face didn't quite turn out right (he looks a bit shark-y), but the rest of him sure did. Mama mia.
292. An Absol, girlfriend of the Latios, who also doesn't have a name. She doesn't quite fit here since I didn't think of adding her before, while I was drawing him, so he's looking the wrong way. Well, maybe she's taken him out somewhere. That's the impression I get from looking at this. I guess they're also holding hands or something out of frame.

This page had a heavy dragons/scalies theme unintentionally. In fact, of the 10 characters (counting the two Pandoras as separate), over half of them - 6, in fact, counting Latios - are dragons and/or scalies! Even by my standards, that's a lot.
