Yira with Socks 3: The Sockening

Description

Hey, me too!

Good news, everyone! I finally learned how to draw dragon wings! Also wings in general, I guess. I finally figured out that they're much like arms, and so there was one more joint I hadn't been accounting for. I'm kicking myself for not looking at the stupid references properly all this time. If you look at Bramble Patch (June 2014,) Amare la Luna (October 2014,) Tall and Short (May 2015) and Yira with Socks 2: Yira without Socks (November 2015) they form a sort of timeline of my struggles with webbed wings. But I've got it down now, so from now on I should be able to draw them much better, and without it feeling so much like a chore.

EDIT: I made that timeline I mentioned! Webbed Wings

Oh, and yes, like I've said before, it took three installments in the Yira with Socks series to get a picture where Yira is ACTUALLY WEARING SOCKS. Yes, she was wearing socks in the first one too, but that one doesn't count because c'mon. Look at it.

And there's something I can't help but address: while I was drawing this, I couldn't help but notice that Yira looked more like a (ahem) femboy than female. This is especially troubling because I intend to upload this to E926 (NOT E621, hahaha), where they have the stupidest rules ever on how to tag genders. Basically, because her face (being that of a dragon) isn't especially feminine, her hips aren't particularly visible, and she has a flat chest... there's always a risk that she'll be tagged as "ambiguous gender," and possibly even "male." And the artist (which would be me in this case) has absolutely no say in the matter. It's up to the viewers to decide what gender the character is, so a flat girl can easily get tagged as male and anyone who calls it out as wrong gets downvoted. What a stupid rule. (EDIT: Having looked at the posts already there, there were several flat-chested female scalies (and non-scalies) on the first page, so it should be okay.)

And besides how to draw wings, this picture also taught me, much to my ire, that I can't draw after consuming a mere unit of alcohol. I had a glass of wine, then tried to sketch this and it was so wonky I had to scrap it and start again.

Anyway, these are a lot of fun to do, so I'm definitely doing another one. Actually, the pose I've got lined up for number 4 is the pose I originally intended to use for this picture. But I decided to swap them for some reason.

Have a sketch and a lineless "version."

I promise I'll upload something pony-related soon.

I must draw more curvy dragons. I MUST!
You can never have too many curvy dragons.
